Opera La Gata Perduda

This series I created for La Gata Perduda Opera documents the faces of Barcelona’s Raval neighbourhood. Celebrating the community at the heart of the opera, the portraits became part of the performers’ costumes and were later exhibited after the premiere, bringing the stories of the neighbourhood from the streets to the stage.

Through a range of events and community activities, the project highlights the spirit of participation, creativity, and coexistence that defines the Raval.

Written Articles

Before picking up a camera, I was telling stories through words. This selection brings together articles I’ve written on topics ranging from social integration and cultural diversity to feminism, community projects and everyday stories that often go unnoticed. My approach to journalism is rooted in curiosity, empathy and a genuine interest in the people behind every story.

“How many of us have had to hear that we’re taking a job from a family man? Or that we took the spot of a male candidate because we received preferential treatment in the physical tests? Or that, as women, we don’t know how to drive a truck?” asks Genciana Meneses in a message she sent to her colleagues in the Generalitat Fire Department. These are, in fact, examples of the everyday sexism that some female firefighters continue to face.

Ania, Ana, Alex and Eric struggle with shyness, making it difficult for them to make friends at school. Max finds it hard to concentrate because of his hyperactivity, while Álvaro is learning to manage his anger. Nadia has attention deficit disorder. Koldo has been bullied for dancing ballet. Lond, a trans boy, has faced harassment since beginning his transition. Bea is mocked for her masculine appearance, Mariona for being a lesbian, Fabur because she is Black and of Nigerian origin, Gerard for his hypochondria, and María for her physical appearance.

Every Friday afternoon, they gather at the Ateneu Popular 9 Barris for social circus classes. As they arrive, they leave their shoes by the entrance and begin rehearsing for an upcoming performance. For a few hours, the concerns they face at school take a back seat to juggling, acrobatics and teamwork.

The social circus programme offers these young people a space where they can meet others, develop new skills and build confidence. Led by circus educator Lulu and a team of instructors, the project uses circus arts as a tool for social inclusion, helping participants navigate challenges that often extend far beyond the training room.
